MAMAN KÜSTERS is a (French) duo from Brest (in Brittany) consisting of Gaël Loison (also in Dale Cooper Quartet & the Dictaphones) and Cyril Pansal (HF90 & PanMe). Cyril also collaborated via his HF90 project on the re-edition of Etienne Daho’s 'Mythomane'.

Their first album "Sous la Peau de Maman Küsters" ("Under Maman Küster’s Skin"), January 2016 (Unknown Pleasures), is scandalously rough and proud.

It features a plethora of instruments mistreated as though D.A.F. or Kraftwerk high on meth and plutonium had stuck their fingers in a socket and started messing around.

The album, a shocking mutation of Chernobyl radioactivity mixed with analog synthesis of Liaisons Dangereuses, Front 242 and DAF, is destined to achieve cult status in the alternative underworld. The brilliant phrasing and lyrics remind us of the pissed musings of Serge Gainsbourg and Alain Bashung.

This is a celebration of adventure, accident and the dark novel. It’s a surprising, haunting exploration of talent and a madness underlying Dadaism. Without doubt, the finest French album of the year in this music genre.

MAMAN KÜSTERS est un duo brestois formé de Gaël Loison (qui joue aussi dans Dale Cooper Quartet & the Dictaphones) et Cyril Pansal (de HF90 et PanMe). Cyril a aussi collaboré avec son projet HF90 à la réédition du « Mythomane » d’Etienne Daho.
Leur premier album "Sous la Peau de Maman Küsters" publié en janvier 2016 chez Unknown Pleasures Records est un disque d'une rugosité et d'une morgue scandaleuse, qui évoque des tas d'instruments électroniques maltraités et secoués, comme si D.A.F. ou Kraftwerk avaient foutu leurs doigts dans une prise électrique et s'étaient mis à tripatouiller des machines shootés au plutonium et à la méthamphétamine.

Cet album voué à devenir culte dans les sous-terrains des courants alternatifs est le résultat d’une belle et stupéfiante mutation qui doit autant aux radiations de Tchernobyl qu’à la synthèse analogique des Liaisons Dangereuses, Front 242 ou D.A.F. Le phrasé et les textes brillamment écrits rappellent autant l'ivresse textuelle d'un Serge Gainsbourg que d'un Alain Bashung.

Ce mystérieux duo breton célèbre avec ce disque l'aventure, l’accident et le polar noir. C'est un album surprenant, hanté et fortement porté par le talent et une douce folie dadaïste sous-jacente. Sans aucun doute le meilleur disque français de l’année dans le genre. Et un gros coup de savate dans la face!
