Trying to define Phil Von is hoping to summarize the long journey of a man who has always challenged the physical limits of sound, voice, dance and theatre. From his beginnings with Von Magnet to the thousands of miles travelled with so many artistic adventures, performances and collaborations, he has reached, from one century to another, the status of master performer. Phil is one of those vocalists who radiate poetry at the limits of Sufism, a vibration that heals you and transports you. For 30 years he has been exploring electronic sounds, attempting to give them breath and soul. With Von Magnet, Meta Meat or in solo, Phil has never stopped creating, evolving, making those artistic worlds - which we thought were antinomic - collide and co-exist.
Simultaneously performer, actor, dancer and composer, Phil Von's approach to musical writing is quite singular, since it always leads towards a form of sound dramaturgy produced by a body which becomes both rhythmic instrument and mystical sounding board.
Around 1985, even before the era of “computerized” music, Phil Von and Flore Magnet founded Von Magnet. Together, with many musicians and artists who joined the caravan, they experimented in the vein of the pioneers of industrial music (Psychic TV, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, Coil) with the early contribution of sampling techniques. The result will be "El Sexo Sur-Realista”, produced by Ken Thomas (Psychic TV, Test Dept, Sigur Rós, Dave Gahan, The Sugarcubes, Moby, Yann Tiersen, Current 93…). This first album became the very first attempt in the history of modern music to combine Flamenco and Electronic music, milestone of the most peculiar style which Von Magnet originated, then perpetuated with “Computador”, “El Grito”, “Mezclador” and “De L’Aimant”. After a long career leading this collective venture which has seen him grow and refine his artistic approach, he returns in September 2022 with a solo album in the form of a legacy dedicated to Von Magnet.
With his latest solo album called "Von Magnet", a way of closing this artistic life chapter as well as giving another token of his love for intertwined Flamenco + Electronic music, Phil Von offers our Unknown Pleasures Records label his great work, a living and exciting record that brings machines closer to humanity and to nature through a very organic perception of electronics combined with that famous "duende" that characterizes Arabo-Andalusian music.
This album counts with the participation of accomplished musicians Hugues Villette, Tit’o, Flore Magnet, Def, Hugues Vincent, Dani Barba, Yana Maizel and Algirdas Klova.
The mastering of Norscq, the magnificent photos of Svetlana Batura and the design of Karim Gabou offer a perfect setting for this mutant of electronic flamenco. To be released on the 1st of September on UPR records.

Essayer de définir Phil Von c’est tenter de réduire en de vains mots le long cheminement d’un sage qui a toujours frayé avec les limites physiques du son, de la voix, de la danse et du théâtre. Depuis ses débuts avec Von Magnet (Phil et Flore enregistrent leurs premières démos avec Robert Rental de The Normal vers 1985 à Londres), jusqu’aux milliers de kilomètres parcourus autour du globe et ces millions de multivers que Phil a traversés au fil de ses performances et de ses concerts, acquérant d'un siècle à l'autre le statut de maître de la danse, du rythme et du chant (issu du flamenco originel). Phil est un de ces vocalistes qui irradient une poésie aux limites du soufisme, une vibration qui vous guérit et qui vous transporte. Depuis 30 ans d’exploration de sons électroniques auxquels il réussit à donner un souffle et une âme qui fait corps lors de ses spectacles avec Von Magnet, Meta Meat ou en solo, Phil n'a cessé de créer, d'évoluer, de faire se télescoper des mondes qu'on croyait antinomiques. Vers 1985, avant même l’ère de la musique assistée par ordinateur, Phil Von et Flore Magnet fondent Von Magnet. Ensemble, au gré des formations et des musiciens qui rejoignent la caravane, ils expérimentent dans la veine des pionniers de la musique industrielle (Psychic Tv, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, Coil) avec l’apport précoce de techniques de sampling. Il en résultera "El Sexo Sur-Realista" produit par Ken Thomas (Psychic TV, Test Dept, Sigur Rós, Dave Gahan, The Sugarcubes, Moby, Yann Tiersen, Current 93…) et sur lequel joue Phil Erb (claviériste de Psychic TV). Après une longue carrière dans le collectif qui l’a vu grandir et affiner sa démarche artistique il revient en septembre 2022 avec un album solo sous forme de testament. A la fois interprète, acteur, danseur ainsi que compositeur, l'approche qu'a Phil Von de l'écriture musicale est assez singulière, puisqu'elle s’achemine toujours vers une forme de dramaturgie sonore produite par un corps qui devient à la fois instrument rythmique et caisse de résonance mystique. Son dernier album en solo s’intitule « Von Magnet », une façon de boucler la boucle et d’offrir à notre label Unknown Pleasures Records son grand œuvre, un disque habité et passionnant qui tente de rapprocher les machines de l'humanité et de la nature à travers une perception très organique de l'électronique mariée à ce fameux « duende » qui caractérise la musique arabo-andalouse.
